May 14, 2016· The abandoned Fiborn limestone quarry is located west of Trout Lake, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula. The limestone from the quarry was shipped to Sault Ste. Marie, Canada for use in the steelmaking process. Michigan's 27th governor, Chase Osborn, was a partner in the firm that started the mining activities at the site in 1905. He eventually sold the quarry to Algoma Steel in 1913.
